What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a serious condition that can happen when a person has experienced trauma from war, accidents, rape, death of a loved one, exposed to violence. Almost 8 million Americans age 18 and older have PTSD. About 67 % of people exposed to mass violence have developed PTSD, an even higher rate than those involved in a natural disasters.
Signs & Symptoms of PTSD
Individuals with PTSD have issues with
- ongoing depression and
- anxiety for a long period of time.
- People that have experience trauma may have difficulty with family and other close relationships.
- They may have issues with trust, communication, being distant.
- Insomnia
PTSD Treatments
According to the National Center for PTSD from the office of verterans affairs. They have found that Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Medication if needed are recommended.
